Claudette & I are traveling through the Southwest on our way to Montana and then on to Connecticut.  There are so many amazing natural sites that you can’t put the camera down.  I have taken hundreds of pictures I will share only a few.  We left home 07/01/13 and took three days to get to Camp Verde, Az. We took a few day trips out of Camp Verde to such place as Sadon,  then Clarkdale where we took a 4 hour train ride through Camp Verde Valley and Canyons. Very pretty.  Then on to to Jerome where they used to mine copper.  We also enjoeyed the Montezuma Castle a five story 20 room dwelling  (an Indian cave dwelling) 100 feet above the valley. Estimated to be in the 1100’s. We stayed 5 days in that area before heading to Kanab Utah.  First day we ran into a fellow who I worked with for some thirteen years at Cercon in Hillsboro. Enjoyed dinner with him at a nice restaurant back in a small town in Arizona.  We have parked here for about 6 days and took day trip out of here.  First day trip was to Zion National Park.  Unbelievable beauty.

Next day we went to Bryce Canyon.  Again amazing  beauty.

Bryce Canyon

Thursday 07/11/13 we were shocked to have a text message from good friends from Whitney, TX.  They spent the night here in Kanab and visited with us here in our coach today.  We planned to go to the north rim of the grand canyon today, but as soon as our friends left it started raining so we are going to chill today and go tomorrow instead.  It is wonderful not to have to be anywhere at an certain time.  I love my coach and I love retirement.  Made it to the north rim and it was beautiful, but I think the south rim is better.  Kane County and Kanab where over 100 western and sci fi movies have been filmed.  We saw and ole set from Gun Smoke which has been allowed to disintegrate.

Then on to Salt Lake City.  We spent an afternoon doing family genealogy  research at the Morman Family History Library.  Next afternoon we went back to Temple Square to tour the church.  They have very impressive buildings and grounds and we had two very nice, pretty young ladies as tour guides.

We then went on to Helena Montana and visted one of Claudette’s classmates and her husband and sister.  We went to a symphony under the stars which ended with a  very nice fireworks display.  After leaving Helena we spent the first night in eastern Montana and the next day we crossed the very less than spectacular state on North Dakota.  We stayed in Castleton, ND  then across Minnesota to  Omro,WI.  where we had great visit with Roger & Carol Bartel.  We met Carol’s brother and sister-in-law and several other members of Carol’s family  We throughly enjoyed meeting all of them and touring their beautiful dairy farm. Earl (Carol’s brother) is so very proud of their dairy and with good reason.  He also took us on a tour of the area and of course he knows every farm in the area for miles around.  We ate dinner Lake Winnebago and had some delicious perch.  That evening three women challenged we three men to a game of hand and foot.  The men came through and beat the women handily!!  We are now in Elkhart, Indiana on our way to New England where we will spend the next couple of months visiting our family and friends.
